Vive Oaxaca en Santa Cruz
In the last fourteen years Vive Oaxaca has grown from a Santa Cruz City Schools club with seven members to more than 300 children, youth, and adults. Vive Oaxaca is now a multi-service nonprofit and is focused on strengthening the Santa Cruz community and creating cross-cultural connections locally and abroad. Latino culture is celebrated through dance and music classes and performances. Our members are participating in pro-social after-school activities (an alternative to street gangs) and celebrating their countries of origin with pride. Tutoring, classes, and scholarships support biliteracy and academic success. Vive Oaxaca serves children, youth, and adults, is run entirely with volunteers, and charges no fees. Vive Oaxaca operates in strong partnership with Santa Cruz City Schools, the Mexican Consulate, and the Museum of Art and History (MAH).
¡Adelante Santa Cruz! provides educational and financial support during middle and high school for selected students to help them on the pathway to higher education.
Centeotl Grupo de Baile y Danza is a dance group that performs traditional Mexican dances.
Formación Musical is a children and youth music program.
The Latino Role Models Conference is an annual event where working professionals inspire students and parents to fully engage in education and attain a college degree.
Plaza Communitaria provides academic tutoring, classes, and scholarships to youth and adults. Topics of study include computers, GED, Spanish, and citizenship.
The Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza is a cultural festival with dance, music, food, and crafts presented the third Sunday each May.
